This piece is in reference to Female Genital Mutilation still being practiced in 28 countries world wide. A procudure that involves partial or total removal of the external female genital organs for non- medical reasons. This proceedure is generally done to children, 15 years and younger and usually without anaesthesia. In Africa alone, an estimated 92 million girls have undergone the proceedure. It has no health benefits and is generally recognized as a human rights violation. Awareness is the first step. Education is the second.
